Standard Chartered supports 31 brilliant but needy undergraduate and postgraduate students
Standard Chartered Bank Ghana has provided scholarships to 31 brilliant but needy students to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in various disciplines, particularly in the areas of economics, business, science and education.
Scholarships provided the 31 students were done through the Standard Chartered Endowment Fund.
Since 2015, the Standard Chartered Endowment Fund has provided scholarships for 91 students from the country’s five public universities.
Speaking at a short award ceremony for the students, Trustee of the Standard Chartered Endowment Fund, Prof. Edward Tsiri Agbenyega averred, Standard Chartered Bank has a long history of contributing to social and economic development and supporting communities in the countries it operates.
The bank’s contributions to social and economic development, he noted, includes the provision of financial assistance to needy but brilliant students who can help shape the fortunes of the country.
Also speaking at the award ceremony was Acting Board Chairman of Standard Chartered Bank, Ebenezer Asante, who encouraged the students to strive to change the world.
“Looking at the various disciplines the students here study and their brilliance, they should be able to solve the challenges and problems of the country,” he quipped.
The 31 students were selected from four public universities being the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Ghana (UG) and University of Development Studies (UDS).
