African Games: Black Princesses hold Uganda to top Group A

The Black Princesses solidified their place in the semifinals of the Women’s Football competition at the 2023 African Games with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Uganda at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Having already secured qualification to the next stage with victories in their first two games against Ethiopia and Tanzania, the Ghana U-20 female side Princesses were determined to finish atop the group.

Despite conceding an early goal by Catherine Nagadya in the 10th minute, the Black Princesses showed resilience, with Abduali Mukarama equalising in the 36th minute to level the score.

Both teams created numerous scoring opportunities throughout the game, but neither could capitalise, resulting in a final 1-1 draw.

With this result, Ghana clinched the top spot in the group stage, amassing seven points from two victories and a draw. Despite the shared points, Uganda also progressed to the knockout stage.

In the other group match between Ethiopia and Tanzania, a draw meant both teams were eliminated from the tournament.
