Apostolic Fathers of Ghana Urge Immediate End to Illegal Mining Amid Rising Environmental Concerns
The Apostolic Fathers of Ghana, comprising the pioneering leaders of the Charismatic Movement, have expressed grave concern over the increasing devastation caused by illegal gold mining, commonly known as galamsey, which continues to threaten the country.
In a strongly worded statement released on Thursday, September 12, 2024, the Apostolic Fathers urged politicians, traditional leaders, and foreign nationals involved in galamsey to cease their activities immediately. They called for a focus on the long-term well-being of the nation and future generations rather than short-term personal gains.
“We urge you to embrace the long-term interests of the nation and future generations rather than pursuing short-term personal gains,” the statement emphasized.
The group also condemned those in authority who have ignored the severity of the issue, accusing them of being driven by selfish motives and personal benefit.
The Apostolic Fathers have proposed a temporary ban on all small-scale mining activities while the government and citizens work together to develop a lasting solution to the galamsey crisis. Their call reflects growing concern over the environmental and social consequences of illegal mining in Ghana.
