That was followed by a sharp pullback the following year that saw it fall close to $3,000. \n \n\n \n Crypto evangelists claim the 2020 rally is unlike 2017 as it\u2019s being driven by institutional buying rather than retail speculation. \n \n\n \n Major Wall Street firms like\u00a0S&P Global\u00a0and\u00a0Cboe Global Markets\u00a0have been making a big push into crypto market data services. \n \n\n \n S&P Dow Jones Indices recently announced plans to launch crypto indices in 2021, while Cboe has tapped New York-based trading software firm Coinroutes\u2019 crypto market data capabilities. \n \n\n \n On Tuesday, U.K. asset manager Ruffer updated clients about a \u201cnew allocation\u201d to bitcoin, revealing it had around 2.5% of its portfolio invested in bitcoin. \n \n\n \n \u201cWe see this as a small but potent insurance policy against the continuing devaluation of the world\u2019s major currencies,\u201d the company said. \n \n\n \n \u201cBitcoin diversifies the company\u2019s (much larger) investments in gold and inflation-linked bonds, and acts as a hedge to some of the monetary and market risks that we see.\u201d \n \n\n \n Ruffer managed around \u00a320.3 billion ($27.4 billion) in assets by the end of November. \n "
