Black Stars seek first win in 7 games in Uganda clash

The Black Stars of Ghana will be seeking their first win after seven games when they take on the Cranes of Uganda on Tuesday in Marrakech, Morocco.

The match, scheduled for Tuesday at 16:00 GMT, marks the culmination of the March international friendlies for both sides.

Ghana will enter the to achieve redemption having lost previously to archrivals Nigeria on Friday. The defeat extended their disappointment in recent times including a group stage exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which marked back-to-back elimination from the first round of the competition.

Form Guide

The last time Ghana won a game was against Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers at the Baba Yara Stadium where the four-time African champions clinched a narrow victory in the dying embers of the game thanks to Inaki Williams’ header.

This defeat, recorded in November 2023 has been followed with disappointing results. The team has now failed to win in all subsequent matches after the Madagascar victory losing to Comoros, also in the Word Cup qualifiers and Cape Verde in their opening AFCON 2023 match as well as the recent defeat in an international friendly to the Super Eagles.

They also drew with Namibia in the build-up to the AFCON and gave away early leads to settle for 2-2 stalemates at the AFCON against Egypt and Mozambique respectively.

Meanwhile, Uganda aims to bounce back from a disappointing loss to Comoros. They lost 4-0 to the Coelacanths highlighting their own challenges despite winning four of their last seven games.

The clash against Uganda will mark Otto Addo’s second game in charge after returning to the dugout of the Black Stars.

Making a positive outcome is imperative to silence critics and instill confidence among supporters and to lessen the chants of jeers following his appointment.

Head-to-head

When considering their head-to-head record, Ghana maintains the upper hand with seven victories, five draws, and three losses across all competitions, underscoring the dominance of the Black Stars. Despite the most recent encounter resulting in a goalless draw in 2017, Ghana have emerged victorious in all four of their non-competitive matches against Uganda.

With both teams eager to fine-tune ahead of the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers and 2025 AFCON qualifiers, the encounter promises to be an intriguing battle between two sides in search of redemption and resurgence.
