COCOBOD Maintains Cocoa Producer Price for 2025/2026 Season

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has confirmed that the producer price for cocoa will remain unchanged for the 2025/2026 season. This decision, announced in a letter to the Licensed Cocoa Buyers’ Association of Ghana (LICOBAG) on April 8, 2025, comes after a comprehensive evaluation of the operational and financial impacts on the local cocoa industry.

Dr. James Kofi Kutoati, Acting Deputy Chief Executive, Operations of COCOBOD, explained that the Board’s decision was made with the goal of ensuring long-term stability and sustainability within Ghana’s cocoa sector. “This decision comes after careful consideration of the operational and financial implications for the cocoa industry,” he stated.

Currently, the producer price is set at GH₵3,100 per 64kg bag, marking a marginal increase of 0.03% compared to the previous rate announced in September for the 2024/2025 crop season. This adjustment, which equates to GH₵49,600 per tonne, is aimed at aligning cocoa prices with prevailing market conditions and providing much-needed support to Ghanaian cocoa farmers.

While the Board acknowledged the price hike in Côte d’Ivoire, it also indicated that a potential review of producer prices, fees, and margins for stakeholders may take place in the upcoming 2025/2026 season.

This move comes at a pivotal moment, as Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, which together account for over 60% of the world’s cocoa production, continue efforts to coordinate pricing under their joint Cocoa Initiative to safeguard farmers’ incomes.
