DOL Super Cup: Skyy FC crowned champions of the maiden edition 

The maiden edition of the Division One League Super Cup concluded on Saturday, October 23, at the Madina AstroTurf as Skyy FC beat Tema Youth on penalties. 

The competition, which commenced with eight teams from the three zones of division ended as Skyy FC and Tema Youth remained the two teams standing.

Both teams finished first and second respectively in Group A during the group stages, with just two points separating them.

During the group stage encounter between the pair, Tema Youth came back from a goal down in the first half to salvage a point as they topped the table. 

Going into the grand finale, both teams looked well-prepared after impressive victories in the semi-final stage with Tema Youth seeing off Samartex with a 2-1 scoreline while Skyy came into the game off the back of an extra-time winner against Accra Lions.

It was the energetic Ebenezer Mamatha who opened the deadlock for Skyy FC in the 15th minute before Tema Youth had the parity kind courtesy of a header from Emmanuel Owusu.

After 120 minutes of end-to-end action, both teams failed to score hence the tie had to be separated on penalty shootouts.

Skyy FC managed to win the shootouts 7:6 against Tema Youth to win the maiden edition of the competition.

Before the decider, Accra Lions and Samartex also faced off in the third-place playoff at the same venue as newly promoted Ghana Premier League side Accra Lions defeated FC Samartex to clinch the third-place spot.

The competition was to serve as a preseason tournament for the participating clubs ahead of the upcoming league season which commences next week Friday.
