Ekumfi Youth Summit Launch Sets Ambitious Agenda for Regional Development
Dr. Stephen Yamoah, Executive Director of Nuclear Power Ghana (NPG), delivering the keynote speech at the launch of the Ekumfi Youth Empowerment Summit (EYES) 2025, highlighted the pivotal role of reliable power supply in driving national development.
Emphasizing Ekumfi’s potential as a central hub for nuclear energy, Dr. Yamoah called on the youth to acquire the necessary skills to support Ghana’s nuclear power ambitions.
He praised the summit’s objectives which focus on skill-building, entrepreneurship promotion, and cultural pride, describing them as essential for empowering the region’s youth and ensuring sustainable growth.
“For any nation to develop and progress, its power supply reliability is key. The success of this nuclear power project targeted at Ekumfi also depends on the youths acquiring basic and advanced skills relative to the project.
“I have taken a close look at the objectives of the EYES and these objectives are of immense interest and benefit to citizens of Ekumfi, and particularly the youth,” he averred.
“I believe very well that this Ekumfi Youth Empowerment Summit intended to serve as a platform for engagement and conversation to help in the development of both Ekumfi and Ghana, will receive our full support. I also believe that should this event succeed, some other districts will emulate the initiative and tread the same path in a bid to develop themselves and the country,” he added.
Also speaking at the launch of the Summit was Nana Nyieku-Otwerkoko, who pointed to Ekumfi’s rich endowment of natural and human resources, including fertile agricultural land and mineral deposits such as lithium and clay.
He urged stakeholders to harness these assets strategically, asserting initiatives like EYES serve as catalysts for the district’s economic transformation.
Representing traditional leaders, Nana Apah Korantse, emphasized the importance of youth empowerment in the broader context of national development.
Citing Ekumfi’s historical significance as the birthplace of prominent leaders like H.E. Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, Nana called on government programs—ranging from vocational training to entrepreneurship support—to provide the youth with the necessary tools for advancing both regional and national progress.
“The district is endowed with vast agricultural land, making it ideal for agricultural production. Additionally, the district’s rich natural resources, including lithium and clay, provide a solid foundation for economic growth,” Nana stated.
He further emphasized the demographic advantage of Ekumfi, with its young and vibrant population, presenting a unique opportunity to channel the creativity and innovation of the youth into driving economic development.
With a focus on youth empowerment, the Summit aims to inspire and equip Ekumfi’s young people to lead the charge in their communities’ socio-economic transformation.
Scheduled for April 2025, the Summit is expected to serve as a model for other districts across Ghana, positioning Ekumfi as a key contributor to the nation’s overall growth and development.
