Ghana Rises to 12th Position in Africa for Lowest Fuel Prices
Ghana has moved up one spot to rank 12th on the list of African countries with the lowest fuel prices, according to the latest data from GlobalPetrolPrices.com.
As of April 2025, the country’s average petrol price stood at $1.029 per litre, placing it 48th globally in terms of fuel affordability.
Libya retained its long-standing position as the country with the cheapest fuel both in Africa and globally, with petrol selling at just $0.027 per litre. Angola followed as the second cheapest at $0.328 per litre, while Egypt placed third at $0.331 per litre.
The rest of the top ten in Africa with the lowest fuel prices are Algeria ($0.343), Nigeria ($0.560), Sudan ($0.700), Tunisia ($0.831), Ethiopia ($0.851), and Liberia ($0.871).
Ghana’s marginal improvement in ranking comes despite recent increases in local pump prices.
According to the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), fuel prices rose marginally at the start of April. Petrol prices increased by 2% to GH¢15.20 per litre, while diesel prices saw a 1.1% uptick to GH¢15.35 per litre.
There was, however, a slight reduction in the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), which dropped by 0.3%, with a kilogramme now retailing at GH¢17.30.
Meanwhile, the average global crude oil price has remained relatively low in 2025, hovering around $65 per barrel — a development that may help stabilise fuel prices in the coming months.
