Guardiola: Manchester City Faces ‘One Percent’ Chance Against Real Madrid
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed a sobering assessment of his team’s prospects in their upcoming Champions League clash against Real Madrid, stating they have only a “one per cent” chance of advancing. This remark comes after City’s narrow 3-2 defeat at home in the first leg of their play-off tie, where they squandered a 2-1 lead with just minutes remaining.
Reflecting on the daunting challenge ahead, Guardiola acknowledged the difficulty of winning at the iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. “The margin to win at the Bernabeu from that position, everybody knows, the percentage to go through is minimal,” he said. “But as much as you have a chance, we will try, that’s for sure.”
Despite the grim outlook, Guardiola remains determined to approach the match with the same fighting spirit that has characterized City’s past performances. However, he conceded that this season has been a struggle for the club, citing poor performances and disappointing results throughout.
City heads to Spain on a high note, following a convincing 4-0 victory over Newcastle in the Premier League. This win has kept their hopes alive for a return to the Champions League next season, even if their current campaign ends prematurely on Wednesday.
“It’s better to travel to Madrid with this result,” Guardiola noted, though he reiterated that one strong performance does not erase the challenges they have faced this season.
