" \n Lewis Hamilton & Serena Williams join Chelsea takeover bid \n \n\n \n Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams are among the investors backing Sir Martin Broughton\u2019s bid to buy Chelsea. \n \n\n \n The Broughton consortium is one of three groups in the running to purchase the Premier League club for \u00a32.5bn. \n \n\n \n As first reported by Sky, seven-time Formula 1 champion Hamilton \u2013 an Arsenal fan \u2013 and 23-time Grand Slam tennis champion Williams have pledged investment into the bid. \n \n\n \n World Athletics president and Chelsea fan Lord Coe is also behind the bid. \n \n\n \n The Blues are operating under a special licence from the UK government after owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned. \n \n\n \n Abramovich put the club up for sale before he was sanctioned for his alleged links to Russian president Vladimir Putin following the invasion of Ukraine. \n \n\n \n BBC Sport understands that Hamilton and Williams have been involved with the Broughton consortium\u2019s bid from the start. \n \n\n \n They would have no say on footballing decisions. \n \n\n \n Other investors in the Broughton-led bid include the Rogers family, who are based in Canada and own media and telecoms company Rogers Communications, chair of the Houston 2026 World Cup bid committee John Arnold, and the Tsai family from Taiwan, which owns two baseball teams. \n \n\n \n Read: AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: \u201cCome play for Ghana\u201d \u2013 Agyemang Badu charges foreign-based players \n \n\n \n The Broughton bid is already backed by Crystal Palace co-owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer, with additional funds from investment banker Michael Klein and Lord Coe. \n \n\n \n The group faces competition to buy Chelsea from consortiums led by Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly and co-owner of the Boston Celtics Stephen Pagliuca. \n \n\n \n American investment firm Raine Group has been tasked with selling Chelsea and the UK government is expected to issue a new licence, allowing the club to be sold once a preferred buyer has been identified. \n \n\n \n Any sale must be signed off by the bidder passing the Premier League\u2019s owners\u2019 and directors\u2019 test. \n \n\n \n Several sources have told BBC Sport that a decision about a preferred bidder is unlikely this week, but once one is chosen it is expected that there will be little opposition to any of the bids from the Premier League or government. \n \n\n \n Chelsea are third in the Premier League and face Liverpool in the FA Cup final on 14 May \n "
