Premier League: Salah’s Milestone Goal Ends Liverpool’s Losing Streak; Arsenal Dominates Burnley
In a thrilling Saturday of Premier League action, Mohamed Salah’s landmark 250th goal for Liverpool helped the reigning champions secure a much-needed 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, while league leaders Arsenal cruised to a 2-0 win at Burnley, extending their lead at the top of the table.
After a dismal run that saw Liverpool lose four consecutive league matches and six out of seven in all competitions, the Reds finally found their footing at Anfield. Salah’s pivotal goal came in first-half stoppage time when he intercepted a wayward pass from Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, calmly slotting the ball into an empty net for his fifth goal of the season.
The Egyptian forward’s achievement was followed by Ryan Gravenberch, whose deflected strike in the 58th minute sealed the win for Liverpool, marking their first league victory since September 20. Although the win leaves them in third place, they remain seven points behind Arsenal as they prepare for crucial clashes against Real Madrid and Manchester City in the coming week.
Meanwhile, Arsenal showcased their title credentials with a solid performance against Burnley. The Gunners scored both of their goals in the first half, with Viktor Gyokeres heading home from a Declan Rice corner to open the scoring, followed by Rice himself doubling the lead shortly after. Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, praised his team’s exceptional first-half performance, noting their strong defensive display that has seen them concede just three goals in ten league matches this season.
In other matches, Manchester United, seeking their fourth consecutive league win, were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest. After taking the lead through Casemiro, United saw their advantage slip away as Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolo Savona turned the tide in the second half. However, a stunning volley from Amad Diallo in the 81st minute salvaged a point for United, who have shown improvement under manager Ruben Amorim.
Chelsea continued their dominance over rivals Tottenham with a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to a goal from Joao Pedro. This win marks Chelsea’s fifth straight Premier League triumph over Tottenham, while they now sit fifth on the table, trailing fourth-placed Spurs only by goal difference.
At the other end of the table, Wolverhampton Wanderers remain in deep trouble after a 3-0 defeat at Fulham, compounded by a first-half red card for Emmanuel Agbadou. Crystal Palace also enjoyed a successful outing, beating Brentford 2-0, while Brighton thrashed Leeds 3-0.
