" \n Rise of betting companies negatively affecting Ghana football \u2013 Former Sports Minister \n \n\n \n Former Minister for Youth and Sports, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye is convinced the upsurge of betting companies in Ghana is having a negative effect on football in the country. \n \n\n \n In the last few years, match fixing allegations has marred the Ghana Premier League with the latest being between Ashantigold and Inter Allies at the end of the 2020\/2021 season. \n \n\n \n His comments come after the two clubs were demoted to Ghana\u2019s division two league for engaging in the menace. \n \n\n \n Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, May 25 2022, Nii Lante Vanderpuye blamed the numerous betting companies in the country for destroying the image of Ghana Football. \n \n\n \n \u201cEffects of betting on our game is not something that we can just talk about and let go. In fact, it defeats the principle of fair play as instituted by the whole world or especially football,\u201d he said. \n \n\n \n \u201cThe advent of betting companies into our with the demise of our own Ghana football doctrine spell the beginning of the integrity of the game. These betting companies are coming with the disguise of supporting our clubs with their so-called financing but they\u2019re only making money out of our football and making our game very dirty. \n \n\n \n \u201cWhat happened in that match between AshantiGold and Inter Allies is not out of the ordinary. It\u2019s happened in so many instances, it\u2019s just the case that this particular one [got the attention]. \n \n\n \n \u201cIt\u2019s affecting our game and today it\u2019s gotten to the level whereby these people because they use systems that are able to put data together, before the commencement of the match, they know the number of people who have put a bet on a particular club.\u00a0 \n \n\n \n \u201cSo they have agents at the stadium, influence clubs, match officials and individual players to take the result around so that they [the betting companies] will make more money and turn round and give some to the clubs as sponsorship. It is very important we take a look at it because this could lead even to influencing the result of our national team matches.\u201d \n "
