" \n Ryanair reports \u2018once in a lifetime\u2019 leap in market share \n \n\n \n Ryanair is seizing market share from rivals this summer as it offers 15% more seats than pre-Covid while competing carriers are operating 15%-20% below 2019 levels. \n \n\n \n Group chief executive Michael O\u2019Leary described the disruption to travel as playing into Ryanair\u2019s hands, declaring: \u201cBig queues at Dover and cancellations at Gatwick are good news for Ryanair. \n \n\n \n \u201cWe\u2019re outperforming all other airlines, making significant gains in market share.\u201d \n \n\n \n Ryanair has escaped the worst of the flight delays and cancellations across Europe, having retained staff and negotiated 20% cuts in pay rather than axe jobs to survive the pandemic. \n \n\n \n O\u2019Leary said the carrier has seen \u201cno slack off in bookings\u201d due to the disruption, claiming: \u201cDisrupted airlines are booking disrupted passengers on Ryanair. We\u2019re seeing a notable increase in bookings from refugee [passengers] fleeing Heathrow and Gatwick.\u201d \n \n\n \n He argued: \u201cWe\u2019re seeing a once-in-a-lifetime jump in market share. \n \n\n \n \u201cWe\u2019re making extraordinary gains in share in Italy, Romania, Hungary, Austria and Ireland and we expect these gains to continue. \n \n\n \n \u201cWe see very strong growth in Portugal, Spain and the UK where cutbacks by easyJet and British Airways are assisting our growth, and we see very strong growth in Eastern Europe. \n \n\n \n \u201cWe\u2019ve overtaken Wizz in its home market Hungary.\u201d \n \n\n \n O\u2019Leary added: \u201cYou\u2019ll continue to see us take market share unless we do something monumentally stupid. \n \n\n \n He conceded: \u201cWe are seeing some disruption due to the abysmal performance of European air traffic control and shortages of staff at some airports.\u201d \n \n\n \n The carrier reported \u201cmuch lower punctuality than normal\u201d, with air traffic control difficulties taking \u201calmost 20 [percentage] points off our punctuality\u201d. \n \n\n \n The Ryanair chief expressed \u201cconsiderable sympathy for competitor airlines\u201d, saying: \u201cThey\u2019re taking a lot of criticism for delays and cancellations that are not their fault because of air traffic control, particularly in France.\u201d \n \n\n \n O\u2019Leary was speaking as Ryanair reported a profit of \u20ac170 million for the three months to June 30. \n "
