Sir Sam Jonah Advocates Long-Term Vision with Short-Term Action for Business Success
Former Chief Executive of AngloGold Ashanti, Sir Sam Jonah, has emphasized that to succeed in today’s global business landscape, leaders must think long-term while acting in the short term.
Speaking at the Gold Coast University Leadership Conversation in Accra on Saturday, March 22, Sir Jonah addressed students, academics, and business leaders, highlighting how major global corporations have thrived by adopting this strategic approach.
“Look at where you want to take the business in the long term, and let all your decisions and actions be guided by that, using all the tools available to get there,” he stated.
The event, themed “Pioneering Leadership: Navigating Ghana’s Economic and Business Transformation,” is part of the Gold Coast Leadership Conversation, a premier leadership development series organized by the University of Gold Coast.
Sir Jonah cited Huawei and other global firms as examples of companies that have successfully implemented this model, accelerating their expansion and establishing themselves as dominant industry players.
In addition to long-term strategic thinking, he underscored the importance of corporate governance, describing it as a critical factor in business sustainability.
“It has delivered significant results for businesses that implement it correctly and consistently. Most companies that have ignored it have struggled to sustain their operations,” he warned.
Sir Sam Jonah’s insights reinforced the need for visionary leadership, sound governance, and strategic execution to drive business transformation and long-term success.
