Sports Minister confirms GFA received $90k for friendly against Brazil

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif has confirmed that the Ghana Football Association was paid $90,000 for the friendly against Brazil in September.

According to Mustapha Ussif, he believes that it was a take-it-or-leave-it but insists Ghana could have negotiated for more money for the game.

The Black Stars lost 3-0 to a convincing Brazil on September 23, 2022 in their tour that saw them play Tunisia also.

“Per the agreement I have sighted, Brazil paid the Ghana Football Association $90,000 for the friendly match. We could have gotten more but because it was (at) very short (notice), Brazil had a lot of African nations to play and because it was (at) short notice you either take it or leave and Ghana too needed the game,” Mustapha Ussif said in an interview on Joy Sports.

It is yet to be disclosed if Ghana received any money for the game against Nicaragua or the GFA rather paid to play that game.

The Black Stars of Ghana will end preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a friendly against Switzerland on November 17 in Abu Dhabi before flying to Qatar for the World Cup.
