" Tanzania aims to dominate the African electricity market \r\n \r\n\r\nThis recent development was reported by the Tanzanian newspaper,\u00a0 The Citizen. \r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\nMulti Cable Limited (MCL), an electricity equipment plant recently received a visit from Tanzania\u2019s Industry and Trade Minister Dr. Ashatu Kijaji. The Minister was impressed with the plant\u2019s portfolio which includes, transformers, meters, and cables.\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\nShe applauded them for already being in charge of the cable supplies for two of the country\u2019s electricity providers including the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco), and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n \u201cOur presence in regional markets like the East African Community (EAC) and South African Development Community (SADC), ensures ready buyers for our product,\u201d\u00a0 Dr. Ashatu Kijaji said.\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\nThe Minister noted that such an initiative is very vital in driving the employment of locals and empowering indigenous entrepreneurs. She noted that at least 1000 jobs have already been created by this industry, applauding the MCL and urging it to create more job opportunities via the expansion of its operations.\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\nThe Minister also mentioned that these local players have an advantage of competing in their space via the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n \u201cThe quality of products made here, certified by Tanzania\u2019s Bureau of Standards make them competitive in AfCFTA,\u201d\u00a0 the minister said.\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\nShe relayed the government\u2019s commitment to seeing to the growth of this promising sector, by creating market access for local manufacturers.\r\n\r\n "
