Top 10 African countries the United States has promised the most money in 2025

U.S. President Donald Trump abruptly announced that USAID funding for several countries would be discontinued, a decision that has shocked vital sectors like healthcare, agriculture, and education in developing nations dependent on aid.

Ironically, however, the U.S. still has substantial funding obligations for the majority of African countries, according to the U.S. Foreign Assistance website.

A few African countries rely on USAID to combat diseases like malaria, HIV/AIDS, and tuberculosis.

Organizations that facilitate vaccination programs and maternal health services are already expressing concerns about the impending funding gap.

In countries like Sudan and Somalia, where USAID has been crucial in addressing public health crises, the shortfall could result in higher health crisis risk and overburdened healthcare facilities.

Despite the broad freeze on USAID, data from the US Foreign Assistance website demonstrates a long-term commitment to support for most African countries, via the data on obligations.

While USAID projects have been discontinued, there are other departments for funding as seen on the website, including the Department of Agriculture, and the Federal Trade Commission, amongst others.

With that said, here are the African countries the U.S. has promised the most money in 2025, despite the halt of USAID funding.
