" Tsikata assigns reasons for rejecting ITLOS National Award \r\n\r\nSenior partner at Reindorf Chambers, the Ghana member firm of the DLA Piper Africa Group of law firms,\u00a0Fui Tsikata , has assigned reasons for his rejection of the ITLOS National Award.\r\n\r\nIn a statement issued by Tsikata attributed his rejection of the national award to the selectivity nature of the award scheme.\r\n\r\nCiting individuals such as Nii Adzei Akpor who were excluded from the National Awards.\r\n\r\n\u201cIt is impossible to understand the criteria which excluded the names of Nana Asafu-Adjaye, Thomas Manu, Ayaa Armah, Kojo Agbenor-Efunam, Nana Appia Kyei and Nii Adzei Akpor.\r\n\r\n\u201cEven Professor Martin Tsamenyi is left out. It was his work that led to the creation of the Maritime Boundary Secretariat, which coordinated the litigation\u201d Tsikata stated.\r\n\r\nAccording to Fui Tsikata, Professor Martin Tsamenyi, \u201cwas an influential member of the team till he fell ill. Nor is it clear why Kwame Mfodwo, the coordinator of the Maritime Boundary Secretariat and Nana Poku, the indefatigable cartographer of the team, were only deserving of \u201cCertificates\u201d, in an evidently belated attempt to offer them some acknowledgement\u201d he added.\r\n\r\n\u201cI prefer to celebrate the collective effort of the team and the leadership that promoted collaboration and stifled disruptive elements. In my letter of 2 November 2022 to the\r\n\r\nSolicitor-General, in response to hers informing me of the offer of an award, I explain that\r\n\u201cI have long and deeply held convictions about not accepting recognition in the form of\r\nnational honours.\u201d Those who know me will confirm these convictions as well as my\r\ninclination to avoid grand public gestures and the fuss around them.\r\n\r\nIf anything tarnishes the awards, it is not my rejection of the offer to me, but rather the\r\nunfortunate selectivity in deciding those involved in the maritime boundary litigation to\r\nwhom awards would be given.
