" WAEON deploys technical team to Nigeria for election learning mission \r\n\r\nThe West Africa Election Observers Network (WAEON) has deployed a technical team to Nigeria for an election exchange learning mission ahead of the country's presidential and national assembly elections scheduled for February 25, 2023.\r\n\r\nThe team consists of four members from WAEON's secretariat, CDD-Ghana. This mission is part of the \"Strengthening Election Observation in West Africa\" project aimed at improving civil society election observation to strengthen electoral integrity in the region.\r\n\r\nYiaga Africa, an Abuja-based organization, will host the team and showcase its innovative election observation management programming. Yiaga Africa is deploying the Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT) to independently assess the electoral process and verify the accuracy of the official results of the presidential election that will be released during the elections.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, Yiaga Africa is pioneering a new election observation approach, the Election Results Analysis Dashboard (ERAD). The ERAD is a technological innovation that seeks to improve the transparency and integrity of Nigeria's elections.\r\n\r\nThe learning mission will focus on best practices from Yiaga Africa's election observation management programming, including the PVT and ERAD.\r\n\r\nThe technical team will also document successes attained from implementing the new initiative, challenges encountered, and useful lessons that may be adopted for replication in Ghana and other African countries. Lessons drawn from this learning mission will be critical for CDDGhana's election programming regarding Ghana's election in 2024.\r\n\r\nThe project interventions seek to strengthen institutional capacity and leadership continuity within and among member organizations of the West African Election Observers (WAEON).\r\n\r\nThe experiences garnered during the mission will be shared widely with WAEON members and other partners across the African continent. The mission was made possible with funding from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED)."
