Petrol, diesel see significant price increase at pumps

Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) in Ghana have raised the prices of petrol and diesel at the pumps.

One of the major players, GOIL, is now selling a liter of petrol at ¢15.25, up from ¢13.60, while diesel is being sold at ¢15.90 per liter, up from ¢15.52.

The increases in domestic fuel prices are a result of the depreciation of the cedi and rising international fuel prices, according to the Institute for Energy Security.

The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers has appealed to transport operators to refrain from increasing fares in response to the rising fuel prices.

The Ghana Road Transport Union had previously stated its intention to push for a fare increase if fuel prices continued to rise.

However, the Executive Secretary of COPEC, Duncan Amoah, suggested that transport owners may need to wait until the end of the first quarter of the year to review fares.
