GPL: Nations FC Move to the Top After Handing Kotoko Fourth Consecutive Defeat; Hearts Continue with Fine Form

In a decisive showdown at Len Clay Stadium on Sunday, Nations FC claimed a comfortable 2-0 victory over Asante Kotoko SC, propelling them to the top of the Premier League table.

This win marked an impressive continuation of Nations FC’s strong start to the season, as they overtook Gold Stars FC to claim first place.

The match saw in-form winger Faisal Charwetey shine once again, scoring his eighth goal of the season just before halftime. Earlier, Nafiu Sulemana had opened the scoring in the 60th minute, setting the tone for a dominant performance by the visitors. The defeat for Kotoko extended their winless streak to four matches, leaving them languishing in eighth place.

Meanwhile, Gold Stars FC’s remarkable 10-match unbeaten streak came to an abrupt end on the same day, falling 2-0 to Medeama SC. Derrick Fordjour put the hosts ahead early with a goal in the 3rd minute, while Michael Enu sealed the victory with an 81st-minute penalty. This loss dropped Gold Stars to second place, two points behind the new leaders, Nations FC.

In a surprising twist, Young Apostles FC delivered the weekend’s biggest upset by defeating FC Samartex 1996 1-0 at the Nsenkyire Arena. Samuel Prempeh’s goal in the 48th minute secured a monumental victory for the newly promoted side, keeping Samartex in 13th place.

Hearts of Oak continued their impressive form with a narrow 1-0 win over Karela United, thanks to Hamza Issah’s early strike in the fourth minute. This victory propelled the Phobians into the top four, now sitting in fourth place with 18 points.

Dreams FC also celebrated a vital 1-0 away victory against Vision FC, courtesy of Abdul Razak Salifu’s goal in the 82nd minute. This win lifted Dreams FC out of the relegation zone, while Vision FC slipped into the bottom three.

In the Bono derby, Berekum Chelsea faced a shocking 2-1 defeat at home to Bechem United. Boat-At Regain scored a brace for the visitors, netting in the 21st minute and again in the 86th minute to secure the win after Stephen Amankona had equalized for Chelsea.

Legon Cities FC escaped the relegation zone with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Basake Holy Stars. After conceding an early penalty goal to Prince Opoku, Frank Akoto and Kojo Gyasi turned the tide for Cities, who now sit in 15th place, while Holy Stars remain in 13th.
