Petroleum Tanker Drivers call off strike amid promised implementation of new remuneration policy
The Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union has officially called off its indefinite sit-down strike, originally initiated to demand better conditions of service and enhanced remuneration.
The strike, which began on Tuesday, saw drivers ceasing operations to highlight their grievances.
Following a comprehensive meeting with key stakeholders, a communique was issued by the union, declaring the cessation of the strike.
The document outlined that a new framework for remuneration has been adopted, with its implementation scheduled to commence by the end of June 2024.
Despite this resolution, union representatives expressed frustration at a press conference, highlighting that a policy framework intended to improve their salaries and working conditions, agreed upon since November 2023, has not yet been enforced by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and the Ministry of Energy.
The union’s leadership emphasized that the delay in implementing these agreed-upon improvements had precipitated the strike action.
