Ghana’s Alex Amankwah Exits World Athletics Championships in 800m Heats

Alex Amankwah faced disappointment at the World Athletics Championships as his journey in the men’s 800 metres came to an abrupt end.

Competing in Heat 7, Amankwah clocked a time of 1:45.08, finishing eighth and failing to qualify for the semi-finals.

The heat was dominated by former world champion Donavan Brazier of the USA, who crossed the finish line first in 1:44.66.

He was closely followed by Slimane Moula of Algeria with a time of 1:44.77, and Croatia’s Marino Bloudek, who finished in 1:44.78.

Amankwah’s early exit adds to a challenging week for Team Ghana in Tokyo.

Earlier, sprinter Abdul Rasheed Saminu narrowly missed out on the men’s 100m final, finishing fourth in the semi-finals, while Benjamin Azamati was eliminated in the opening round, placing sixth in his heat.
