Tesla Tops Taurex IPO Wealth Ranking as Early US$1,000 Stake Grows to About US$24,000

  • Tesla Tops Taurex IPO Wealth Ranking as Early US$1,000 Stake Grows to About US$24,000

Tesla has delivered the strongest long-term share-price gain among a group of major global companies tracked by online trading platform Taurex, with a US$1,000 investment made at its 2010 initial public offering growing to roughly US$24,000 by June 2026.

The finding comes from an August 2026 study by Taurex, which examined 27 well-known companies and compared their original IPO offer prices with closing share prices recorded through June 2026.

According to the research, Tesla went public on June 29, 2010 at US$17 per share and was trading at US$408.95 by June 8, 2026. On a simple price comparison basis, that represents an increase of about 24 times the original IPO price, making it the strongest performer in the Taurex ranking.

The result is notable because Tesla was not profitable when it entered public markets and remained highly controversial among investors for years. The company’s rise therefore illustrates one of the most difficult realities of long-term equity investing: many of the biggest eventual winners often look uncertain, expensive or unproven at the time they first list.

Adobe ranked second in the Taurex analysis. The software company went public on Nasdaq in August 1986 at US$11 per share and was trading at US$244.99 in the period tracked by the study.

That represents a gain of more than 22 times its IPO price, meaning a US$1,000 investment at listing would have grown to about US$22,270 based on the methodology used by Taurex.

Adobe’s performance is particularly striking because it has quietly outpaced many companies that have received far more public attention over the past four decades. Its long-term return reflects not only the growth of software markets but also the company’s ability to adapt its business model as technology shifted from packaged products toward subscriptions and cloud-based services.

The company listed on March 13, 1986 at US$21 per share and was trading at US$411.74 in the study period, equivalent to almost 20 times its IPO price. Taurex estimates that a US$1,000 investment made at the listing would have grown to close to US$19,600.

Microsoft’s trajectory also highlights the importance of corporate reinvention. Its early growth was driven largely by Windows and Office, but the company later developed a new growth engine through cloud computing under chief executive Satya Nadella.

Nvidia ranked fourth, having entered public markets in January 1999 at US$12 per share before rising to US$208.64 by June 2026, according to the Taurex study.

That equates to roughly a 17-fold increase from the original IPO price.

Nvidia’s case is particularly relevant to current market conditions because the company spent much of its history known primarily as a gaming-chip producer before becoming central to the artificial-intelligence boom. Its graphics processing units emerged as critical infrastructure for training large language models, transforming the company’s market position.

Salesforce completed the top five.

The cloud-software pioneer went public in June 2004 at US$11 per share and reached US$182.55 in the period reviewed, equivalent to nearly 17 times its IPO price. Taurex estimates that a US$1,000 investment made at listing would have grown to about US$16,595.

The company was among the earliest major technology firms to build a business around delivering enterprise software through the internet, a model that later became standard across the global software industry.

The broader significance of the Taurex ranking is that exceptional IPO returns are generally associated with companies that combine long-term revenue growth with the ability to adapt to technological and market shifts.

But the results also offer a warning.

IPO performance is highly uneven, and early investor enthusiasm does not guarantee lasting returns. The fact that some companies have generated extraordinary wealth over decades should not be interpreted as evidence that newly listed technology businesses will follow the same path.

That point is particularly relevant as investors assess a new generation of high-profile private companies potentially approaching public markets.

A market analyst cited by Taurex said artificial-intelligence companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic remain difficult to value because strong revenue growth is being accompanied by rapidly rising infrastructure costs.

Training increasingly sophisticated AI models requires billions of dollars in computing investment, making future margins and capital requirements difficult to predict.

SpaceX presents a different investment case, according to the commentary cited in the report, because the company already has significant commercial contracts, physical infrastructure and a strong position in launch services.

But the analyst argued that both AI and aerospace listings would still carry the fundamental risk attached to any IPO: investors are buying expectations about future growth before that future has fully materialised.

Tesla, Adobe, Microsoft, Nvidia and Salesforce did not become major long-term winners simply because they went public at attractive prices. Their returns were built over years through innovation, market expansion, business-model evolution and, in several cases, significant periods of uncertainty.

The ranking therefore provides useful historical context for investors considering future high-profile listings.

The biggest gains in public markets are often created over long periods rather than in the first days or months after an IPO.

For investors, the more important question is not simply whether a company has a compelling story at listing.

It is whether that company can continue growing, adapting and generating value long after the excitement surrounding its IPO has faded.
