Visiting Old Trafford to meet Harry Maguire will be a great pleasure – Ghanaian MP Isaac Adongo

Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central constituency in Ghanaian parliament, Isaac Adongo has expressed his deep enthusiasm at the prospect of visiting the iconic home stadium of Manchester United, Old Trafford.

He conveyed that the opportunity would bring him great pleasure, emphasising his genuine excitement about the visit.

Speaking on JoyFM News Night on Wednesday, November 22 in response to Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire’s invitation to him to visit Old Trafford, Mr Adongo expressed his lifelong passion for football and his excitement at the prospect of meeting the English player.

He stated, “I’m a soccer fan, and you would notice that I grew up as a footballer, so visiting Old Trafford will be a great pleasure, and I would make sure that at some point in my life before he retires, I will make sure.”

The Bolgatanga Central MP’s comments follow a response by the Manchester United defender in reaction to a Joy Sports post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) where he apologised for comparing Maguire to Ghana’s Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Last year, during a session in the Ghanaian Parliament, Mr Adongo sparked controversy by making a derogatory comment about the football performance of the Manchester United defender.

He likened Maguire’s struggles at his club to the poor economic performance of Dr. Bawumia, who also served as the Head of the Economic Management Team.

Mr Adongo asserted that both individuals had failed to meet expectations.

However, in a surprising turn of events, on Tuesday, November 21, while addressing Parliament, Mr. Adongo issued a sincere apology to the Manchester United defender.

He acknowledged Maguire’s remarkable turnaround on the field but maintained his concerns about Dr Bawumia’s role in the country’s increasing debt and economic challenges.

In response to Mr Adongo’s apology on Wednesday, the 30-year-old football player conveyed his acceptance, stating “MP Isaac Adongo, apology accepted. See you at Old Trafford soon.”

However, Adongo emphasised that the feasibility of accepting the invitation would depend on his schedule and responsibilities in Ghana, indicating that a visit to the United Kingdom would only be possible if circumstances permit.
