GPL: Hearts Of Oak Stage Thrilling Comeback Win: Vision FC, Karela United Play Out A Pulsating Draw

Hearts of Oak staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Accra Lions 3-2, solidifying their ambitions for the Premier League title. The win propelled the Phobians to sixth place in the league standings, accumulating 25 points from 15 matches.

The match kicked off at a frenetic pace, with both teams eager to seize control. Mohammed Hussein opened the scoring for Hearts of Oak in the 36th minute, providing a glimmer of hope for the visitors.

However, the Lions responded with resilience, and just seven minutes into the second half, Lucky Nwafor leveled the score with a well-placed shot.

The game took another twist when Ezekiel Alladoh put Accra Lions ahead with a sleek finish, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. Yet, Hearts of Oak refused to be deterred. Mawuli Wayo emerged as the hero for the Phobians, scoring a sensational double in quick succession. He netted his first in the 80th minute, and just four minutes later, he sealed the comeback with a second goal, leaving the Lions reeling.

Despite the defeat, Accra Lions remain hopeful as they strive to escape the bottom three of the table, a challenging position amid a tumultuous 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

In other league action, Karela United dropped crucial points at home, settling for a 1-1 draw against Vision FC. Joshua Kwame Rhule put the visitors ahead just before halftime, but Jibril Nurudeen equalized for Karela in the 80th minute, a result that offers a vital boost for Vision FC as they navigate their first season in the Premier League.

Nations FC currently sit in fourth place, while the defending champions find themselves struggling in ninth.

Meanwhile, Dreams FC secured a valuable point on the road, drawing 0-0 with Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park. Both teams showcased their skills, but neither could find the back of the net, leaving Chelsea in eighth place with 19 points and Dreams FC still grappling in the relegation zone.
