betPawa GPL Matchweek 7 Wrap: Legon Cities hold Asante Kotoko; Aduana Stars win to go top

Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s winning run came to an end as they drew 1-1 with Legon Cities at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Wednesday.

The Porcupine Warriors had picked solid wins over Samartex and Medeama, and they were expected to make it three straight wins as they hosted their former boss Maxwell Konadu’s Legon Cities.

For most the game, the Porcupine Warriors were dominated by the Royals who were on a mission to avenge their back to back losses to the defending champions last season.

After 14 minutes, Kotoko broke the deadlock thanks to a sweet goal from Stephen Mukwala, aftee converting a penalty and held on to their lead till the first half of the game.

Back from recess, Legon Cities were rewarded for their gallant display as Sadat Mohammed equalised for the Royals.

Kotoko will not be too happy with the result because they were hoping to get a win which would have propelled them to the summit of the league for the first time this season but are now lagging two points behind leaders Aduana Stars who picked up a 2-1 win at home to Berekum Chelsea at Dormaa.

It was derby delight for Aduana as they came into the game having suffered their first defeat of the season to Real Tamale United by a goal to nil.

They had lost the top spot as a result of the defeat, and they were determined to reclaim it by beating their noisy neighbours.

Mercurial forward Bright Adjei was up to task as he  scored a brace in both halves to help Aduana Stars to victory and back to the top of the table as the international break approaches.

Aduana are back on top, but a win for Accra Lions on Thursday will see return the Ogya boys return to second place with Berekum Chelsea  dropping to 10th place after their second defeat of the season.

Dreams FC lost their second game in a row after losing to Bechem United 2-1 at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu.

It was a tale of a two sided affair as the victory also ended Bechem’s unimpressive away form this season.

Dreams assistant coach Wilfred Dormon stood in for Ignatius Osei-Fosu who was absent following his assignment with the Ghana national team at the World Cup in Qatar.

Dreams were first to score through Agyenim Boateng’s beautiful strike but the win did suffice as Bechem drew level with captain Kofi Agbesimah converting  a penalty kick and Emmanuel Avornyo ensuring the Hunters picked up all three points with his goal three minutes later.

King Faisal continued their redemption story with a victory against Karela United in Tarkwa to move out of the relegation zone. Adu Dwomoh’s 60th minute goal was enough to hand them all three points.

Accra Great Olympics bounced back from their defeat to Legon Cities last week as they beat Real Tamale United 2-1. It was RTU who took the lead in the first ten minutes through David Abagna but they could not hold as Olympics fought back with goals from Raymond Grippman and Amos Acheampong in the 18th and 61st minute of the game respectively.

Nsoatreman FC also made it two wins in a row with a 1-0 win over Tamale City thanks to Baba Mahama’s 68th minute goal.

Bibiani Gold Stars and Medeama SC played out a 1-1 draw at the Duns Park.
