Government to Establish Cyber Security Fund to Bolster Digital Defences
Ghana is set to establish a dedicated Cyber Security Fund to provide sustainable financing for national cyber initiatives, Minister of Communications Samuel Nartey George has disclosed.
Speaking at the launch of the 2025 National Cyber Security Awareness Month at Burma Hall, Burma Camp, on Wednesday, October 1, the Minister said the initiative is in line with sections 29 and 30 of the Cybersecurity Act, 2020.
“Measures are being implemented to establish a sustainable financing mechanism for cybersecurity. We are committed to establishing a Cyber Security Fund … to ensure the availability of financial resources to support national cybersecurity initiatives, protect critical information infrastructure, and build capacity across all sectors,” he stated.
This year’s Cyber Security Awareness Month is themed “A Safe, Informed and Accountable Digital Space.”
Mr George also emphasised the human dimension of cyber risks, noting that negligence and unintentional actions are often the root cause of breaches. “According to a study by IBN, human error is the primary cause of 95% of cybersecurity breaches. That is, unintentional actions and inactions by employees and users can cause, spread or facilitate security breaches,” he added.
The proposed Fund is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing Ghana’s resilience against cyber threats, particularly as the country deepens its digitalisation agenda across public and private sectors.
