Communications Minister Dismisses NCA Cyber Security Director, 13 Others

The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has dismissed Kwadwo Gyamfi Osafo-Maafo from his position as Director of Cyber Security at the National Communications Authority (NCA).

The decision, which takes immediate effect, was communicated through an official letter signed by the Chief Director of the Ministry, Alexander Yaw Arphul, on February 14, 2025.

“You are directed to hand over your duties to the Acting Director General of the National Communications Authority. In line with paragraph 8 of your appointment letter, you will be given three months’ salary in lieu of notice,” the letter stated.

As part of the transition process, Mr. Osafo-Maafo is required to transfer all responsibilities to the Acting Director General of the NCA.

Minister Samuel George acknowledged Mr. Osafo-Maafo’s contributions to national cybersecurity efforts and expressed gratitude for his service. However, the ministry did not provide specific reasons for the termination.

In addition to Mr. Osafo-Maafo’s dismissal, 13 other employees within the Ministry and its affiliated agencies have also been relieved of their duties. Among them are Maame Broni Gyampontemaa and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman for Ablekuma West, a constituency previously represented by former Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
