Prudential Bank tops Ghana’s Household Lending Rates at 42.24%

Prudential Bank has emerged as the most expensive lender for one-year household loans in Ghana, with an average annualised percentage rate of 42.24 per cent, according to the Bank of Ghana’s June 2025 lending rate report.

The central bank’s data, which tracks rates for households, SMEs and corporates across the banking sector, showed Bank of Africa at the opposite end of the spectrum, offering one-year household loans at 20.22 per cent.

Annualised percentage rates capture the total cost of borrowing, combining the Ghana Reference Rate with institution-specific risk premia and fees. The measure is intended to provide borrowers with a more transparent view of financing costs, beyond headline interest rates.

The figures underline the significant disparities in lending costs within Ghana’s banking sector, a gap that could influence household credit demand at a time of tighter monetary conditions.
