Energy Ministry Refutes Aviation Fuel Shortage Claims, Assures Steady Supply

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has dismissed reports suggesting a shortage of Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) fuel in Ghana, assuring both the public and airline operators of adequate fuel stock for all aircraft operations.

In a statement issued on Thursday, July 24, 2025, the Ministry described the circulating reports as false and misleading, urging the public to disregard any suggestion of fuel scarcity at the country’s airports.

“There is no cause for alarm,” the Ministry emphasised, adding that ATK stock levels remain sufficient to meet ongoing operational requirements. It further noted that recent maintenance works carried out on the ATK jetty pipeline were part of proactive efforts to strengthen fuel supply infrastructure.

“Recent maintenance work was completed on the ATK jetty pipeline to enhance fuel security. This was long overdue, and any delays would have posed risks to the integrity of the jetty and the country’s fuel security,” the Ministry explained.

As part of efforts to bolster supply, the Ministry disclosed that a recent ATK shipment carrying 11,984 metric tons (MT) of fuel had docked in the country. Out of this, 4,583 MT have already been discharged to Petroleum Warehousing and Supplies Limited (PWSL) within the past two days.

The remaining stock, it added, is currently being offloaded to the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Ridge depots through the TOR Jetty, with full discharge expected to be completed by midday Friday, July 25.
