2022 AWCONQ: The next 3 years is for rebuilding, says Back Queens head coach Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo
Black Queens head coach Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo says the team will use the time off from competitive football to rebuild after failing to qualify for the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana was eliminated after losing 2-1 on aggregate despite winning the second leg 1-0 on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium to Nigeria.
Tagoe-Quarcoo believes the team put up a good fight and will now focus on preparing the team to compete once again in the next three years.
She made these comments after the game.
“Unfortunately we could not qualify, so for now we have nothing else to do than to wait for three years,” Mercy Tagoe said.
“We are going back to the drawing board to start preparing.
“This is a very young team and we are doing team building till the 3 years is up,” She concluded.
Their exit from the qualifiers based on the new format means the Black Queens will now miss the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.
Also, the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup which will be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand will see The Black Queens not participating.
