2022 Budget presentation rescheduled to November 17

The presentation of the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government for the 2022 fiscal year by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, November 17, 2021.

The Ministry of Finance had earlier announced November 15, 2021, as the presentation date.

The new date was, however, disclosed on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, by the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

Making the disclosure, Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu noted Members of Parliament are expected to approve the budget by December 17, giving them very little time to scrutinize the budget.

“Ideally a Parliament should spend about eight weeks in interrogating budgets but we don’t have the luxury of time. We are not going to be able to spend eight weeks interrogating the budget,” he said.

“We only have about four weeks and that is why I will entreat the committees to act in conjunction with their sector ministers, very proactively to deal with the allocations as early as possible and not just rubber stamp, very intelligent scrutiny of the allocations before it comes to the passage of the appropriations on the 17th of December,” he added.
