2023 AFCON Diaries CAF increases prize money by 40%; Winner set to take home $7m

In a groundbreaking move, the Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) has unleashed a wave of anticipation and enthusiasm by announcing a substantial 40% increase in the Prize Money for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (“AFCON”) Côte d’Ivoire 2023.

The footballing extravaganza is set to be even more thrilling, with the winner of the 2023 Afcon now set to claim an impressive USD 7,000,000.

The runner-up of this prestigious tournament will also revel in the financial windfall, as their reward has been boosted to USD 4,000,000. The financial stakes have been raised across the board, ensuring that each of the two semi-finalists will be competing not only for glory but also a substantial USD 2,500,000.

Even the Quarter-finalists, a group of four teams, will have a compelling incentive, with each set to receive USD 1,300,000.

This significant surge in prize money is poised to inject a new level of intensity and determination into the 2023 Afcon, elevating the competition to unprecedented heights.

“CAF has made significant progress over the past two years in increasing the Prize Money of the AFCON and all its other major competitions. We have increased the Prize Money of the AFCON Winner to USD 7 000 000 which is a 40% increase from the previous AFCON Prize Money,” the President of CAF Dr Patrice Motsepe said.
