2024 Elections: Voters to punish the NPP for E-Levy approval – Survey reveals
A poll conducted by Ghanaian research firm, Global InfoAnalytics, this April, has revealed that Ghanaians intend to punish the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the approval and passage of the levy.
In an earlier survey [in the first quarter], 40% of voters in 68 constituencies in the country indicated that they will only use MoMo only when it is absolutely necessary, whilst 26% said they will withdraw their funds all together.
A Further 18% said they will find alternatives to avoid paying the levy whilst 9% said the levy’s imposition will no effect on how they use MoMo.
In the recent survey, 69% of people who said they will withdraw their funds from their account plan to vote for John Mahama whilst 16% plan for vote for Dr Bawumia.
For Those who said they will use the MoMo only when it is necessary, 47% plan to vote for John Mahama whilst 37% plan to vote for Dr Bawumia. In the case of those who indicated that they will find a way to avoid paying the levy, 57% will vote John Mahama whilst 29% will vote for Dr Bawumia.
Dr Bawumia only leads among those voters who said the levy will not have any effect on how they use MoMo, 52% compared to 33% for John Mahama.
For Alan Kyeremanten v Mahama race, the story remains the same as majority of voters other than those who said they will use MoMo only when necessary and those who said the MoMo tax will have no effect on them plan to vote for John Mahama, 64% for those who plan to withdraw their funds, 53% for those who will find ways around it and 48% for those who said they don’t use MoMo.
However, the report suggest also shows that Alan Kyeremanten leads John Mahama among those who said it will have no effect on how they use MoMo, 54% to 35% and crucially, amongst those who said they will use the MoMo only when it is absolutely necessarily, 45% to 44%.
