- MTN Drives Market Activity as GSE Records 3.24 Million Shares Traded
Trading on the Ghana Stock Exchange rebounded on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, with total market turnover rising to GH¢21.64 million as investors exchanged 3.24 million shares across listed equities and exchange traded funds.
The session was heavily driven by Scancom PLC, MTN Ghana, which recorded 2.95 million shares traded for GH¢20.03 million, making it the dominant counter by both volume and value. The telecoms stock closed unchanged at GH¢6.80, but its trading activity accounted for the overwhelming share of the day’s turnover.
The ordinary shares market recorded 3.24 million shares valued at GH¢21.30 million, while the NewGold exchange traded fund added 676 units valued at GH¢335,979.40, bringing total market turnover to GH¢21.64 million.
Other notable trades included Ghana Oil Company PLC, which recorded 29,302 shares valued at GH¢234,799.42, and Benso Palm Plantation PLC, with 1,942 shares traded for GH¢166,041.
Cal Bank PLC traded 141,366 shares valued at GH¢125,773.80, while GCB Bank PLC recorded 2,892 shares worth GH¢120,085.10. ZEN Petroleum Holdings PLC also saw 16,000 shares traded for GH¢105,000.
Price movements were mixed, with five gainers and five decliners.
ZEN Petroleum Holdings PLC posted the strongest gain of the session, rising by GH¢0.16 to close at GH¢6.56, from GH¢6.40 previously. SIC Insurance Company PLC advanced by GH¢0.07 to close at GH¢5.72, while Societe Generale Ghana PLC gained GH¢0.06 to end the session at GH¢6.40.
Clydestone Ghana PLC also rose by GH¢0.02 to close at GH¢1.64, while Ghana Oil Company PLC edged up by GH¢0.01 to close at GH¢8.01, touching a new year high.
On the losing side, Enterprise Group PLC recorded the steepest decline, falling by GH¢0.37 to close at GH¢10.66. Ecobank Transnational Incorporated lost GH¢0.02 to close at GH¢1.96, while Republic Bank Ghana PLC also declined by GH¢0.02 to GH¢5.54. Cal Bank PLC slipped by GH¢0.01 to GH¢0.89.
Several counters closed unchanged, including Access Bank Ghana PLC, Agricultural Development Bank PLC, Atlantic Lithium Limited, Benso Palm Plantation PLC, Ecobank Ghana PLC, Fan Milk PLC, GCB Bank PLC, Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC, Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC, TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana PLC, Tullow Oil PLC and Unilever Ghana PLC.
The trading pattern again showed the market’s reliance on a few liquid counters. MTN Ghana alone contributed about GH¢20.03 million out of total market turnover of GH¢21.64 million, underscoring its central role in liquidity on the exchange.
This rebound in turnover also marked a strong improvement from the previous session, when total market turnover stood at GH¢5.94 million. However, the breadth of activity remained narrow, with many counters recording limited trades or no activity.
The May 6 session reflected renewed liquidity in a market still driven by selective positioning. MTN Ghana remained the anchor of trading activity, while modest gains in ZEN Petroleum, SIC Insurance, Societe Generale Ghana and Ghana Oil Company pointed to continuing interest in selected petroleum, insurance and banking-related counters.
Overall, the market posted stronger turnover, but the concentration of activity suggests that secondary-market depth across the broader exchange remains uneven.
