Improved Market Sentiment Lifts GSE Indices and Capitalisation

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) ended Thursday’s trading session on a positive note, with key benchmark indices posting modest gains amid improved market sentiment and heightened trading activity.

The GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) advanced by 0.30% to close at 8,859.08 points, lifting its year-to-date (YTD) return to 1.01%, from 0.72% in the previous session. Similarly, the GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) edged up by 0.16% to 4,683.18 points, translating into a YTD gain of 0.77%.

Improved investor confidence also reflected in market capitalization, which increased by GH¢336.58 million to close the session at GH¢176.85 billion.

Trading Activity Picks Up

Market activity remained firm, with total volume traded surging to 3.84 million shares, representing a 289.41% increase over the previous session. The corresponding value of trades rose sharply by 245.36% to GH¢18.16 million.

MTN Ghana dominated trading, accounting for the bulk of turnover with trades valued at GH¢15.25 million from a volume of 3.59 million shares, representing about 83.97% of total market activity.

Gainers Lead Performance

On the price movers’ chart, First Atlantic Bank (FAB) led the gainers, appreciating by GH¢0.06 to close at GH¢7.77. Enterprise Group Limited (EGL) followed with a gain of GH¢0.04 to end the session at GH¢3.52.

MTN Ghana also posted a GH¢0.02 gain to settle at GH¢4.25, while CAL Bank added GH¢0.01 to close at GH¢0.63. No decliners were recorded during the session.

Market Context

The modest uptick in indices and strong turnover underscore cautious optimism among investors, as activity continues to concentrate on select large-cap stocks, particularly MTN Ghana. Market watchers expect trading patterns to remain selective in the near term, with investors positioning ahead of Q1 2026 earnings releases and dividend declarations.
