Transport Operators Issue One-week Ultimatum to Spare Parts Dealers Over High Prices
The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of TUC and allied commercial transport operators have issued a one-week ultimatum to spare parts dealers, demanding an immediate reduction in the prices of vehicle parts.
In a strongly worded statement jointly signed by Alhaji Abass Ibrahim Moro, the operators described the prevailing prices of spare parts as “unreasonable, unacceptable, and unsustainable,” warning that the rising costs are crippling their operations.
According to the operators, earlier engagements with spare parts dealers had failed to yield results, despite assurances that prices would be reviewed.
“We cannot continue to operate with such high costs, and it is imperative that immediate action is taken to reduce prices,” the statement read.
They further cautioned that failure to address their concerns within the given timeframe would compel them to explore alternative suppliers, including foreign nationals, who they claim could provide more competitive pricing.
The ultimatum comes against a backdrop of mounting frustration within the transport sector, which has already been grappling with fuel price hikes and rising maintenance costs.
Spare parts dealers are yet to issue an official response to the demands.
