Kofi Adams Nominated as Minister of Sports and Recreation
President John Mahama has nominated Kofi Adams, the Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency, as the new Minister of Sports and Recreation.
This announcement was made following the release of the third batch of ministerial appointments pending Parliamentary approval.
Adams steps into the role, taking over from Mustafa Ussif, who has held the position since 2021 under the New Patriotic Party led by former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
At 49 years old, Kofi Adams brings a diverse background to the ministry, holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology with a focus on the Epidemiology of Parasitic Diseases. His extensive experience in both education and politics positions him well to address the challenges facing the sports sector.
Prior to his nomination, Adams had publicly expressed his dedication to revitalizing the sports industry in Ghana. “I will gladly accept the Sports Minister position if appointed,” he stated in an interview with GhOne TV. “Let’s return to grassroots sports and implement it effectively.”
His commitment to grassroots initiatives signals a potential shift in focus towards developing talent from the ground up, which many believe is crucial for the future of sports in the country.
As he prepares for the vetting process, expectations are high for Adams to transform the fortunes of Ghanaian sports.
