Akufo-Addo to commission Sunyani Airport on August 3

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected to commission the first phase of the rehabilitated Sunyani Airport on Wednesday, August 3, 2022.

The Sunyani Airport, which is in the heart of the Bono Region was shut down in March 2015 after the runway developed challenges, which were not conducive for flight.

The rehabilitation works began in February 2019. It was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, the airport has undergone renovation including the terminal and the tarmac.

The airport was rehabilitated at a cost of GHC50 million. DAA Construction Limited constructed the wall. Resources Access Limited on its part constructed the runway. The runway has been extended from the initial 1,280 meters to 1,400 meters.

The Transport minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah on Tuesday 19 July 2022 inspected the facility to ascertain work done so far. He said the second phase of the rehabilitation works will soon commence after the commissioning of the first phase.

Asiamah was hopeful the airport will serve the transportation needs of the public.
