Kwadwo Sheldon: I started YouTubing to avoid joblessness

Kwadwo Sheldon, the popular Ghanaian content creator, has said that although he has an HND in marketing, he decided to start ‘YouTubing’ to avoid being unemployed.

“I have a lot of people watching my breakdown of songs,” the self-acclaimed ‘content nyame’ – content lord – said. “We’re currently getting about two million views every month.”

Speaking with Naa Ashorkor on a special edition of Between Hours at the Academic City University College on Wednesday (27 July) he said, “I thought myself how to create and edit videos with the help of YouTube. I didn’t go to any school to learn it. The education system is basically chew and pour.”

“I have employed 10 people now. The fact that I am feeding 10 people gives me satisfaction. My greatest satisfaction is knowing that I’m able to help put food on the table of those I work with. It means a lot to me,” Sheldon said.

Controversies

Sheldon, however, said that he has engineered controversies for big celebrities, adding “it works for some, it doesn’t work for some. It sometimes gets violent and physical, which gets out of hand.”

“I don’t want to become a normal content creator. I want to create conversation, I don’t want to be boring.

“I built resistance from being bullied as a child. I am even bullied till now. People bully me every day. They say my head is big.

“That made me develop a thick skin now and I’m not too bothered about a lot of things but mental health is important and if you’re going through something and need to talk to someone, you should,” Sheldon said.

Sheldon explained that the hardest part of his job is the ideation aspect.

“You have to be on your toes and be consistent. I have created a brand that requires me to be consistent.”
