GSE Boss Lauds Federated Commodities for Pioneering Commercial Paper Issuance on Ghana Fixed Income Market
Managing Director of the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE), Abena Amoah, has commended Federated Commodities PLC (FEDCO) for its pioneering role in issuing the first Commercial Paper on the Ghana Fixed Income Market (GFIM), describing the move as a significant boost to investor confidence and capital market innovation.
Speaking at a ceremony to mark the official listing of the Commercial Paper, Ms Amoah noted that the issuance underscores FEDCO’s “forward-looking leadership, financial discipline, and confidence in Ghana’s investment market.”
“This issuance is not just about raising funds. It’s about building trust. It’s about transparency. It’s about tapping into a broader investor base that is ready to support real sector growth in Ghana,” she said.
Highlighting the broader significance of the transaction, the GSE boss emphasized that the successful listing is a strong vote of confidence in the country’s capital market infrastructure, regulatory environment, and investor appetite to back credible institutions advancing Ghana’s economic agenda.
Ms Amoah also pointed out that the Commercial Paper Market is one of the latest innovations under the GSE’s diversification agenda aimed at expanding capital-raising options for private sector players.
“This commercial paper market is designed to help institutions raise capital quickly while offering investors quality short-term instruments with attractive returns,” she stated.
Encouraging more firms to tap into the capital market, she added: “The GSE is ready for all companies that want to raise capital. Companies can raise debt for up to 270 days, invest in short-term financing, and even access permanent capital for long-term financing. This eases the pressure of high-risk short-term borrowing and enhances equity support for businesses.”
FEDCO’s GHS 72.5 million Commercial Paper issuance forms the first tranche of a planned GHS 200 million programme and is the first instrument to be listed on the GFIM since the official launch of the Commercial Paper Market by the GSE in 2024.
The landmark transaction marks a critical step forward in deepening Ghana’s capital market and expanding funding options for corporates.
The issuance of the Commercial Paper by Federated Commodities PLC was facilitated by First Atlantic Bank Ghana Limited, First Atlantic Brokers Limited, Deloitte Ghana, G.A. Sarpong & Co, Glico General, GCB Bank PLC, Central Securities Depositary (CSD) and Beacon Ratings.
