Rabat Set to Host African World Cup Playoffs Next Month

Morocco’s capital, Rabat, is gearing up to host the highly anticipated African World Cup playoffs next month, as announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The playoffs will take place across three different stadiums, showcasing the excitement and intensity of African football.

The playoff matches are scheduled to commence on November 13, with Nigeria facing off against Gabon at 16:00 GMT, followed by Cameroon taking on the Democratic Republic of Congo at 19:00 GMT. A draw set for Thursday will determine which match will be played at the Stade El Barid and which will take place at the Prince Heritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex.

The winners of these semi-final matches will meet in a deciding game on November 16 at the Stade Prince Heritier Moulay Abdellah. The victor will secure a spot in the inter-continental playoffs scheduled for March, where they will compete for a place in the upcoming World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the U.S.

These playoffs feature four teams that emerged as the best runners-up from the nine African qualifying groups, highlighting the competitiveness of the continent’s football scene. Already, nine African teams have qualified for the World Cup, and this playoff round will determine the continent’s tenth representative.

In addition to the World Cup playoffs, Rabat will also play host to the Africa Cup of Nations finals, set to kick off on December 21, with the newly built Stade Prince Heritier Moulay Abdellah slated to host the tournament’s final match on January 18.
