Aggrieved customers of Gold Coast Fund Management seek permission for demonstration to retrieve locked-up funds
The Aggrieved Customers of Gold Coast Fund Management (ACGCFM) leadership has made an earnest appeal to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Interior Minister, and the public at large, seeking permission to demonstrate in their bid to retrieve their locked-up funds from the defunct Gold Coast Fund Management Company.
Despite numerous attempts to access their funds, the ACGCFM stated that their efforts have been in vain, and their plight seemingly forgotten. Following the revocation of the company’s license five years ago, several investors remain without their funds, and some have tragically succumbed to poverty.
The ACGCFM expressed frustration with perceived obstacles encountered whenever they raise their concerns, particularly during public demonstrations. The group noted their intention to picket outside the Ministry of Finance on July 24, 2023, to demand the release of their locked-up monies, a plan they had communicated to the police on July 12, 2023.
In response, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander requested a rescheduled picketing date, citing logistical reasons. After discussions and a suggested date by the police, the ACGCFM agreed to hold a 36-hour nonstop picketing starting from August 24, 2023.
However, the ACGCFM has expressed surprise at the sudden request by the police to reschedule their picketing to a date after September, invoking the Homowo Festive Celebration as the reason. The group has requested the intervention of the IGP to ensure that their constitutional rights to peacefully protest and seek redress are upheld.
The plea by the ACGCFM underscores the persistence of their struggle to access their funds and highlights their determination to raise their voices against perceived barriers to their cause.
