Black Stars’ Technical Advisor Winfried Schafer Urges Unity as Ghana Prepare for Crucial World Cup Qualifiers

Newly appointed Technical Advisor for the Black Stars, Winfried Schafer, has made an impassioned plea for unity among Ghana’s national football team as they gear up for critical 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar. With the stakes higher than ever, Schafer emphasized that the players must set aside their differences and work collaboratively toward a common goal.

As the Black Stars currently sit second in Group I with nine points, the upcoming matches in the March international window are pivotal for their World Cup aspirations. In his first interview with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Schafer articulated his vision for the team, focusing on the need for cohesion and collective effort.

Following a disappointing AFCON qualifying campaign that saw Ghana miss out on the tournament for the first time in two decades, the team has been grappling with a crisis of confidence. Schafer’s call for unity aims to revitalize the squad’s spirit and foster a strong sense of togetherness among the players.

“It’s not about individual brilliance; it’s about collective effort,” Schafer stated emphatically. “The best teams, not the best players, win matches. We need to instill a sense of pride in wearing the Ghanaian jersey. We must work tirelessly to support our players, show them respect, and create a conducive environment for success. Together, we can achieve greatness and book our ticket to the United States.”

With the four-time AFCON champions focused on securing back-to-back World Cup qualifications, Schafer’s message of unity couldn’t come at a more crucial time. The next FIFA World Cup, set to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, represents a significant opportunity for Ghana to redeem itself on the global stage.
