Lagos and Accra Ranked Among the World’s 10 Best Cities for Nightlife

Lagos and Accra have been recognized among the world’s top 13 nightlife destinations.

Lagos, Nigeria’s bustling commercial hub, ranked 6th, surpassing well-known cities like Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Manchester in the UK, while Accra, Ghana’s coastal capital, secured the 10th spot on the list.

This ranking was released by Time Out, a global magazine operating in 333 cities across 59 countries.

Afrobeats, the sound that has ignited dancefloors across the globe, has its origins in Nigeria – so it is no surprise that the country’s biggest city, Lagos, ranks so high for its nightlife.

Lagos earned an impressive 80% quality score for its vibrant nightlife scene, and it’s not too hard on the wallet for locals either, scoring 48% for affordability.

The magazine also noted that Lagos’ nightlife venues, such as Freedom Park and The House on Victoria Island, have become synonymous with exciting events that cater to a wide array of tastes, from Sunday salsa nights and networking events to afro house club nights like Odyssey House.

Accra’s nightlife scene scored pretty well, earning 66% for quality and 36% for affordability. Locals rave about the vibe, calling it ‘beautiful’, ‘peaceful’, and ‘safe’. Popular hangouts include the lively bars in Osu and the all-night beach parties at Labadi Beach, where people know how to have a good time.

Accra’s nightlife has bounced back strong since the pandemic, and now it’s all about outdoor vibes,” says Accra expert Kofi Dotse. “Picture rooftop bars, open-air concerts, live DJ sets, and art festivals—it’s a whole new level of fun,” he stated.
