From Mistrust to Meaning: IPR Ghana Reflects on Role of PR in 2025

From Mistrust to Meaning: IPR Ghana Reflects on Role of PR in 2025

As the world marks World Public Relations Day 2025, the Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana is urging communicators to rise above misinformation and mistrust, and to reaffirm their purpose — not merely to publicise, but to foster clarity, connection, and credibility in service of humanity.

The global community is reflecting on the critical role of PR professionals in today’s divided world, under the theme, “Building Bridges & Navigating Polarisation”.

Below is a Message from the IPR, Ghana President, Esther Cobbah, on World PR Day 2025

Today, I write with a deep sense of pride as we join the global community in marking World Public Relations Day 2025.

This day is more than a celebration — it is a powerful reminder of the vital role we play as professionals in shaping narratives, building understanding, and fostering connection in an increasingly polarised world.

The theme for this year, “Building Bridges & Navigating Polarisation,” could not be more timely. Across the globe — and right here at home — we are witnessing growing tensions: political divisions, misinformation, cultural misunderstandings, and a widening gap between institutions and the people they serve. Many organisations believe they are working tirelessly, yet their messages often fail to resonate with those they seek to engage and serve.

This is where our role as public relations professionals becomes critical. We are bridge builders. We help organisations, nations, communities as well as individuals turn from confusion to clarity, confrontation to dialogue, and mistrust to mutual understanding. We help communicate and connect. We listen, interpret, and deliver messages that are not only heard but truly felt and understood, bringing real value.

Public relations is not about just providing publicity; it is about purpose. It is about sustaining credibility, ensuring communities feel, and are seen and heard, and helping the public find truth amidst the noise and fake news.

So, as the world celebrates our profession and the values we uphold, I invite each of us in IPR Ghana to reflect on how we are helping to bridge divides — within our organisations, our communities, the nation and the world at large.

As members of IPR Ghana, each of us carries the responsibility to raise professional standards and deepen the impact of our work. Let us continue to deploy our professional skills with integrity, strategy, and empathy for the sake of humanity.

Happy World PR Day!

Let’s keep building bridges together.
