President Mahama Announces Plans for Six Modern Sports Stadia Across Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has announced an ambitious initiative to construct six modern sports stadia in Ghana’s newly created regions. This announcement came during his “Thank You Tour” stop in the Western North Region, where he emphasized the importance of enhancing sports infrastructure across the country.

Speaking to local leaders and residents, President Mahama stated, “Under the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, modern sports stadia will be built in the six newly created regions, as well as in other regions that currently lack such infrastructure.” He highlighted that the aim of this project is to ensure equitable access to quality sporting facilities, particularly in under-resourced areas.

The six regions set to benefit from this initiative – Western North, Oti, North East, Bono East, Savannah, and Ahafo – were established following a national referendum aimed at improving governance and bringing development closer to the people. This expansion increased Ghana’s administrative regions from ten to sixteen.

This initiative could significantly boost sports participation and development in the targeted regions, providing athletes with better facilities and opportunities to excel. The Ministry of Sports and Recreation is currently leading the design and planning phases of these new stadia.
