GPL: Prosper Ogum Remains Optimistic Despite Setbacks in Kotoko’s Title Chase
Asante Kotoko’s head coach, Prosper Nartey Ogum, is holding onto hope in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League title race, despite his team’s recent struggles. The Porcupine Warriors suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Nations FC on Matchday 28, extending their winless streak to three games and leaving them six points adrift of league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars.
After the match, Ogum expressed confidence that the title race is far from over. “Conceding five goals in our last two games is uncharacteristic of us,” he stated. “But we have six more matches to play. It’s not over. The players need to believe. If they don’t pick themselves up and believe they can do it, we’ll continue to see these setbacks. We’ve experienced this before in the first round. Now, we need to regroup, analyze things technically and tactically, and address the gaps.”
Kotoko’s latest defeat came against a determined Nations FC, who have now completed a season double over the Reds. Sulemana Nafiu opened the scoring with a stunning curling shot just 15 minutes into the match, and he later assisted Emmanuel Annor to double the lead just before halftime.
While Kotoko struggles to find form, Bibiani Gold Stars maintained their grip on the top of the table with a narrow 1-0 victory over Medeama, bringing their points total to 53. Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak’s title ambitions took a hit as they were held to a goalless draw by Karela United, further intensifying the competition for the championship.
